Some serious blasphemy

According to this translation of the Quran:

Without (belief in) God, life is torment within torment, intellect is pure retribution, ambitions are pure pain, attainments are losses, union is separation, love is suffering, pleasure is distress, and knowledge is whim. He is the cure for the afflicted, and the remedy for wounded hearts. Hearts attain peace and come to rest by remembering and mentioning Him. Whoever has found Him has found everything; whoever has lost Him has lost everything.

There are several interesting points in the logic:

  • "Whoever has found Him has found everything; whoever has lost Him has lost everything" - a clear, absolute binary. It's my way or the highway.

  • "Without (belief in) God" - note the belief in God being implicitly associated with the existence of God itself. In logic equations:

without belief in God == without God
=> belief in God == God

This last point is fascinating because it opens the door for free will in a theist interpretation. We create the gods we believe in. Scary thought, considering what we believe in!
